Hi, I am just wondering why I can only go as low as five seconds to bid on the auction I thought you could put in 1 second. I lost my auction by one second because someone had a chance to bid.
We recently changed the minimum to 5 seconds, to increase the chances that a momentary delay will not prevent a snipe from being executed. We now have a mirror server, so there are 2 servers placing bids as a fail-safe, but will probably keep it at 5 seconds. There's no benefit to placing a bid later than that.

Chances are, that bid was placed days or hours before the auction's end. eBay's proxy bidding system only raises a bid until it is the high bid, or it has been exceeded.
Ideally, you want your bid placed too late for manual snipers to react, and before any other automated snipes. See our FAQ page, mainly #12 for more info.
